Aspire To Be A Mermaid? There’s A School For That

If you’re anything like me, perhaps you have, at some point in your life, wanted to be a mermaid. The idea of being able to breathe underwater and explore wondrous watery new worlds below has been very appealing at times.

For those of us who’ve had such fantasies, a visit to the Mermaid Swimming Academy in Boracay, Philippines, may be a dream come true.

Cosmopolitan recently featured a piece on the school, and a visit to the Mermaid Swimming Academy website provided lots of information about what visitors can expect. There are a variety of classes for aspiring mermaids and mermen alike, teaching students the art of “mermaiding.”

Students at the academy can rent their own mermaid tails, learn how to swim and dive like mermaids, participate in photo sessions, and become certified. Additionally, there are advanced classes for those mer-students who wish to go scuba diving or want to learn how to perform like a mermaid; there are also classes for people to learn how to become mermaid instructors.

Those visitors who would love to don a mermaid tail, but aren’t too keen on the idea of exploring the mysterious fathoms below, may also sign up for a 30-minute photography session.

The classes range from 90 minutes to four hours.

If you can’t visit the Philippines but are yearning for your very own shimmering mermaid tail, you’re also in luck. The academy features an online Mermaid Tail Factory, where people can purchase their very own gorgeous tails.

Sounds like a splashing good place all around!
