Switzerland’s Real Life Hobbit Houses

Swiss architect Peter Vetsch has made a name for himself by creating his unique Earth house homes. Since the late 70s, Vetsch has created Earth houses that are ecologically and environmentally conscious, although he builds conventional houses as well.

Using sprayed concrete construction, building shells are created to maximize the space of a small surface area. The houses are built using natural and recycled material and the grass-covered roofs provide insulation, which protects the houses from rain, cold, and wind erosion. There are over 90 Earth houses in Switzerland and other countries in the world.
