Take A Peek At 5 Of The World’s Weirdest Restaurants

There are times for dining at a quiet and romantic restaurant, with the soft glow of candlelight and easy listening music playing in the background; there are also moments that call for a more unique dining experience.

When you’re tired of the same old vibe and looking for something extraordinary, plenty of unusual eateries abound around the globe. Here are five of the world’s weirdest.

1. Ninja New York

Ninja New York is designed to depict a Japanese village during the feudal days, with individual rooms laid out in a maze-like fashion. According to the website, contraptions are set up throughout so as to confuse intruders, and the decor is themed to remind guests of the mysterious world in which ninjas lived. Diners should take note that ninjas sometimes show up unannounced during dinner!

2. Modern Toilet

Modern Toilet is, perhaps, one of the weirdest restaurants around. As someone who has lived in the country, I can attest that Taiwan has many odd eateries, and this chain is right at the top of the list. The restaurant started out selling chocolate ice cream in containers shaped like squat toilets, but it has since evolved into a full-fledged themed experience where diners are served meals straight from dishes shaped like toilets and other bathroom objects.  Be warned — the menu items are toilet-inspired as well!

3. Chillout Ice Lounge

Chillout Ice Lounge is too cool — literally. This place is constructed entirely of ice and seems to have a very surreal and magical ambiance, with lighting that changes colors filtering through the icy decor. Even the plates, glasses, benches, and tables are made from ice! Hot complimentary drinks are given to guests upon arrival and thermal clothing is also conveniently provided. Bundle up!

4. Bors Hede

If you are willing to leave behind the comforts of modern technology (or want to escape them altogether), be sure to check out Bors Hede at Camlann Medieval Village in Carnation, Washington. This Medieval-inspired restaurant does not allow the use of cameras or cell phones and gives visitors the illusion of stepping back into a 14th century village inn. Here, guests will enjoy food and drink as well as the music and stories of minstrels via a medieval dinner-theater presentation.

5. Dinner in the Sky

Putting airplane food aside, did you know you can actually dine up in the air? At Dinner in the Sky, diners will enjoy (or perhaps be terrified the entire time) having dinner 100 feet from the ground while sitting at a portable flying table with attached chairs. Chefs will prepare dinner for the airborne guests as they dangle above the world below. The idea, first launched in Belgium, is now available for diners to experience in 45 locations around the globe.
