Have you ever been to a City Council meeting? I’ve not. However, I’ve been in multiple meetings for various boards such as workforce boards, school boards, etc…and I’ve yet to see much excitement. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see someone dozing off at these types of meetings, and usually with good reason. They’re hella boring, for the most part. However, sometimes something lively happens, and that’s exactly how it went down at a city council meeting for the council of Handforth in Cheshire. The parish meeting descended into chaos and it seems that it’s not the first time this has happened.
The councilors who participated in the meeting were trading insults and using expletives, all in a fairly calm British way. Some of them even managed to keep their sense of humor, although when one gentleman complained about being booted off an earlier call, another man said, “Quite right!” Ha! One man could be heard muttering curse words under his breath while the embattled clerk worked hard to try to bring the session to order. All in vain, I might add.
People got booted off of this call, too, it seems. The clerk, Jackie Weaver, was heroically stoic as she worked to get things in order. When the video footage of the Zoom call was shared on social media, it went predictably viral. It’s just not often we see older folks going bonkers on a Zoom call. I love it!
Someone (a very clever person) even made t-shirts that said, “You have no authority here Jackie Weaver.”
Watch this hilarious video below. Quite Right! Ha!
Here’s a video of Jackie Weaver explaining what went down.
