The Power Of ‘Chewbacca Mom’ Is Still Taking Over The Internet, And We Should Never Let It Die

If you haven’t figured it out by now, this is a viral video website. We search the internet to find the most entertaining/informative videos out there, so we understand the normal process viral videos and their stars go through. Most experience what I like to call the “Microwave Popcorn” effect. A button gets pressed, things start popping for a minute, the creation gets shared with everyone in the room, and then you throw the bag in the trash a few hours later.

This happens daily on the internet, and you might be thinking Chewbacca Mom (Candace Payne) is just an extremely delicious bag of popcorn. The memory of her putting on that mask outside a Kohl’s department store will soon fade, and she’ll go back to living her normal life in Texas.

I think her story is going to be different though. No, I’m not saying she’s going to move to Los Angeles and get her own talk show. In fact, I’m not even talking about her specifically when I say this viral video experience is going to be different.

What I mean (and what I hope) is that the spirit of her video will continue to live on. Some people might treat this video as a fun distraction from the real problems of the world. A much-needed break from the 2016 election. But what if the election/gossip/personal attacks are the real distractions? What if we spent more time focusing on the things that truly make us happy?

I think everyone needs to find their own Chewbacca mask. And while you’re figuring out what that means for you, check out Candace’s wild adventure following the success of her video.
