The whole concept of the library is simple:

“Over 36,000 sketchbooks, from 100+ countries live within the walls of Brooklyn Art Library. Our exhibitions and projects are interactive, allow anyone to participate and create an approachable museum setting that inspires creation, discussion and education.”

The library runs with a simple concept. They have a Sketchbook Project where anyone from anywhere around the world can purchase a blank sketchbook so they can share their art and leave a legacy. Once they are done with the sketchbook, they send it back to the library and have their work catalogued for everybody to discover.

The actual library is open to everybody, and the collection has themes and guides that the participants follow. For everybody wanting to discover art, they have a personalized method. With the help of a librarian, anybody can choose one book, and the librarian will add a random book of their choice that they think the person will appreciate.

When a sketchbook is checked out, the artist of the sketchbook is notified that somebody has their book. This makes sure that everybody feels important through their art.

For the Sketchbook challenge participants who choose to digitize their work, the library gives them the chance to sell their artwork. They will get an artist page where their work is showcased along with the price and options for anybody who wants to order. The library gives 50% of the earnings to the artists.
