Best Baby Shower (Or Wedding!) Gift EVER

Is it just me or finding the perfect (original) gift for a baby shower or a wedding is getting impossible? You could always go for the registry ones, but I really like giving a personal touch to everything I give. I mean, maybe too many diapers or cutlery is never enough, but I think it’s a little more personal and sometimes even more practical!

So, surfing around I stumbled upon Meredith’s fabulous idea from Unoriginal mom and thought
wedding gift, baby shower gift, unique, gift, DIY, original

I am talking about a folder. Let me explain, a beautiful, DIY folder with a special place for all that important paperwork and planning moms and brides-to-be have lying around unorganized on a desk!
It’s obviously the perfect gift for someone who loves organization, like I do, but it is also a resourceful mini-break and a very special place for that stressful time when you feel like lists are just not enough to get your pieces (of paper) together.
It is personal, practical, not available anywhere else, will come in handy, portable, so easy to make, and will most often than not, will be kept forever.
All you need is:
  • An accordion file with 12 pockets or file box.
  • 12 cute file folders (I found these or these on Amazon, but you can use whichever you like)
  • 12 labels and markers (or you can use print on labels if you prefer)
Now all you have to do is customize each label according to specific needs/categories and place each label in a folder, then accommodate each one inside the accordion file or box and you’re ready to go!
Meredith used these categories for her baby shower one (but feel free to create your own)
  • Birth Certificate & Social Security Card
  • Keepsakes
  • Milestones
  • Pediatrician Visits
  • Immunization Records
  • Other Health Records
  • Insurance Paperwork
  • Nursing/Feeding Info
  • Parenting Articles/Pamphlets
  • Receipts/Warranties
  • Manuals
  • Miscellaneous
I created my own groups for a wedding gift, which include:
  • Financial
  • Guests
  • Vendors and rentals
  • Ceremony
  • Reception
  • Parties
  • All About The Bride
  • Stationary
  • Photography
  • Registry
  • Miscellaneous
  • Legal stuff
Unoriginal mom suggests that if you want to get a little more creative for those almost mommies or brides, you can include some printables inside to help with the organization.  I found some great free ones!

For baby showers

1. Wit and Wander’s hospital bad checklist
2. Our handcrafted life has a good new baby checklist
3. Super baby mom has another great checklist before the baby arrives
4. Unoriginal mom‘s postpartum checklist

For a wedding gift

1. Inklings got some amazing ones on shower planning.
2. Almost Makes Perfect‘s vendor list
3. WedPlan has like the most wonderful planner and guide I’ve ever seen
4. Confetti Daydreams‘ wedding emergency kit checklist
My inner organizing nerd can’t wait to be invited to the next shower or party. Also, if you are a bit selfish like I am, you can gift this to yourself and give that spring cleaning a boost!
