Ninety-nine percent of the world’s population loves pizza, I’m pretty sure that’s a fact! And Carlos Valdez together with his wife is no different (even if the love pineapple on their pizza) but that’s not the only reason they keep ordering pizza from their favorite Papa John’s in Roy, Utah, because what makes their pizza delivery order is because it is brought to them by their favorite pizza delivery guy, Derlin Newy.
The charming 89 years old (yup, you read that right, the guy’s 89 years old and he still delivers pizza, what’s your excuse?) pizza delivery guy’s charm is so heartwarming, that the Valdezes has shared videos of his deliveries to the over fifty thousand followers and he’s catchphrase, “Hello, are you looking for some pizza?” has caught the hearts of many of them.
But despite the sweet and entertaining videos, most of the Valdezes’ followers’ concern was that someone as old as Newy should not be working that hard. So Carlos decided to reach out to their followers if they could all chip in and raise a bit of money to help out Newy. But what he did not expect is the amount of money he was able to gather. The Valdezes’ TikTok family was able to donate $12,000 in total, and last Tuesday, September 22 Newy got a surprise delivery. Carlos knocked on his door with a t-shirt that read “Hello, are you looking for some pizza?” on one hand and a check for $12,000 on the other.
Newy was in tears and was lost for words, all he could say was, “How do I ever say thank you? I don’t know what to say.”
What Carlos and his family did for Newy shows exactly how it pays to be kind to other people. It is a firm example that people can band and work together for a cause whenever it is needed.
