I’ve never been jealous of a chicken before. To be honest, most chickens don’t have a great life and of course, it’s because of humans (I’m looking at you, chicken plants and farms where I grew up in Arkansas!) However, in the last decade or so, some urbanites have started raising chickens and these chickens actually have wonderful lives. One of my childhood friends lives in the suburbs in a large city and she started raising chickens so that she could enjoy farm-fresh eggs right from her back yard.
My friend’s chickens have a good life. The chicks who live in these tiny backyard farms have decent lives because their owners are committed to making sure they lead their best chicken lives. Let’s check out some amazing chicken coops.

In an interview with the website This Old House, chicken expert Ann E. Stratton said that it’s important to elevate a chicken coop’s nesting area a couple of feet above the dirt so that your chickens’ feet remain nice and dry when it rains. Hens can actually be very picky. Also, hens need a full 16 hours of natural sunlight every single day to keep laying those wholesome eggs.

OK, so who else is just a tiny bit jealous of these chickens who get to live here? I am, but most of all, I’m happy for them.
