Classical Pianist Chloe Flower Performs Magnificent Cover of Cardi B’s New Song ‘Up’

I have a confession to make: I love music, but not all music catches my attention. The fact is, like most of us, I have a habit of only listening to music I’m familiar with. There is an exception. When I was raising kids, I was very in touch with popular music and all of the artists of the era in which my kiddos were children and teenagers. We live in the country and everywhere we go is a commute, so we spent a lot of time in the car. Sometimes, we listened to my music, but more frequently, we listened to theirs.

At that time, it was the radio. Our car was way too old to accommodate streaming devices (ha). So I did fall in love with a lot of new artists and discovered a ton of new music that remains on my personal playlist to this day. Currently, however, I’m mostly stuck in my old standards. Sometimes it takes something utterly unique to pull me out of my musical rut. For example, Cardi B isn’t an artist I’m familiar with and her new song “Up” is fairly explicit. Not that this would disqualify it from me liking it, but it’s just not likely to cross my path.

BUT….when a classical pianist added her own spin on the song, it got my attention. Chloe Won, known professionally as Chloe Flower, is an American classical pianist, writer, producer, and composer. Her classical music education includes the likes of The Julliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. In other words, she is phenomenally skilled and talented. She has released her own album, but one thing she does is sometimes add her own personal touch to covers of songs by other artists.

Recently, she tweeted a short 38-second clip of herself covering Cardi B’s “Up” and now suddenly I’m totally a fan of this talented young woman, and I’m also a fan of Cardi B’s song! The tweet went totally viral, which is why I saw it in the first place. Since Chloe tweeted the clip, it’s been seen more than 1.2 million times, has 10.2K retweets, and 50.4K likes. Check it out below.
