As adults, we don’t usually give garbage men or trucks any special attention. It’s just a thing that happens once a week. If anything, it’s a bit stressful as an adult trying to remember what day to put your trash out. I can’t be the only one who has ran outside at seven in the morning with Batman pajamas on trying to catch the garbage truck before it pulls away.
But to a little kid, the garbage truck is pretty freaking cool. It’s loud, it’s decked out with neat features and IT EATS TRASH!
Three-year-old Brooklyn Andracke from Bloomington, Illinois, has a special connection with her garbage man. Every Thursday, Brooklyn and her mother wait for the truck to come driving down the street, and they’re always greeted with a huge smile and a honk from garbage man, Delvar.
Brooklyn’s mother wrote the following on the City of Bloomington’s Facebook page…
“Every… Thursday, my heart is full when I see the joy that our amazing garbage man brings Brooklyn when he honks and waves at her with a BIG smile. And today…Brooklyn and I wrapped up one of her birthday cupcakes and waited for him.”
And when he stepped out of the truck, Brooklyn was absolutely speechless. Thankfully, her mother was there to tell Delvar how much they appreciate him, “I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday, and we really appreciate the honking and waving, and how special of a day it is for us.”
After they snapped a few photos and shared more smiles, Delvar went back to work and Brooklyn’s mother dropped her off at daycare.
But the story doesn’t end there. One week later, Delvar returned and this time he was the one who had a special gift for Brookyln.
With his own money, he purchased some pretty awesome birthday gifts for Brooklyn. And as you can see from the photos, she was ecstatic.
“His kindness towards her has touched my heart in a way I can’t describe. Thursdays ROCK! Thank you, Delvar!” Brooklyn’s mother wrote.
He’s touched all of our hearts now. <3
