On April 28, 2010, a video of a young boy named Greyson Chance, playing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” was posted on YouTube, admittedly, despite the brilliance and talent showcased in the video, it did not go instantly viral. A few weeks after, though, a couple of social media sites posted articles with the video embeds, one of them being reddit.com, and that was where it all started. Soon it reached RyanSeacrest.com, BuzzFeed, TVGuide, THe Huffington Post. Yahoo music and even Ellen DeGeneres and Ashton Kutcher.
Greyson’s video first came to Ellen’s attention when his brother, Tanner, wrote to the Ellen DeGeneres Show, suggesting that the host watch the video. By May 12, as Ellen announced that Greyson’s would be guesting on the show, the video had over 36,000 views. The next day, his appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show where he was interviewed and performed “Paparazzi” after receiving a call from his “true inspiration,” Lady Gaga was broadcasted.
Greyson’s career skyrocketed from there. By October 26 of the same year, his video was posted, his debut single “Waiting Outside the Lines” was released on iTunes. In September the following year, he was again invited to the Ellen Degeneres show to talk about his first album Hold On ’til the Night. He also talked about trying out acting. He played the role of a younger version of the protagonist of Fox’s Raising Hope, Jimmy Chance.
Today, the now 22-year-old and multi awardee singer has over a dozen singles, two albums, Hold On ’til the Night which was released in 2012 and Portraits which was released last year, he has also released two extended plays, done multiple tours around the world, and has been featured by artists like tyDi and Frank Pole.
