Imagine you’re just chillin’ in a New York City subway station and suddenly Miley Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon appear to sing Dolly Parton’s legendary 1973 song “Jolene.” It seems surreal and like a crazy dream, doesn’t it?

Well for one crowd of subway riders, it was a reality. When the pop star was only 24 years old, she and Fallon donned dark wings, sunglasses, and hats for an impromptu appearance. We’re not sure how many people were actually fooled, though. Miley Cyrus’s distinctive and husky voice is pretty recognizable.

This isn’t the first time Miley Cyrus performed “Jolene.” Her voice seems a natural fit for the popular song. With any luck, she’ll record it and we’ll all have something new to add to our playlists.

Released in October 1973, Dolly Parton herself wrote “Jolene.” In 2004, the song was ranked one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone.

“Jolene” has been covered by lots of artists, including Olivia Newton-John. Also, John Mayer covered “Jolene” with Norah Jones and Keith Urban at the 2011 Grammy Awards. It’s a difficult song to cover.
